bliumchikDear Santa, for this miscellaneous holiday season I would like some rollicking adventure stories, or lulz, or possibly both!
I'm not actually a lighthearted fic only kind of person, but half of my requests this year have sort of turned out so exactly, and the others could go either way. So! Some things I enjoy in fic of that kind include snappy dialogue, snarky best friends, ridiculous things happening, tongue firmly in cheek, the inexplicable appearance of small cranky mammals, and people meeting each others' eyes behind someone's back and mentally facepalming at each other.
Some things I enjoy in tragic/poignant fic, if Obernewtyn or Danger Days strikes you that way, include subdued desperation, people grimly soldiering on in the face of inevitable defeat, quiet philosophical moments, very small touches of solidarity and that weird sort of angry optimism.
I should not have to note that optional details are optional, of course xD
I am basically neutral on allll the pairings, so, you know... don't undo canonical ones without explaining it, but otherwise go nuts. There don't need to be sex scenes or even romantic scenes but I'm not opposed if the story wants them. (Personally, in plotty stories like the ones I've requested, I enjoy pairings being expressed subtly mid-plot, but I've read some stories that stop the action to let the OTP make out in which it worked really well, so you know. Do whatever you're good at!)
Now, specifics! I'm going to copy-paste my requests in italics for reference. Please note that Fandom 3 is a music video which would be a really easy fall-back if you're just not feeling it on the request you matched for.
1. MacGuyver. SO: Imagine if the tv show had been created with a female main character, otherwise identical in personality. Basically all I want is lady-Macgyver being competent :P
I haven't actually watched that much Macguyver. Just over half an early season, I think. And I've seen the box set in JB Hi-fi, it takes up an entire shelf xD so yeah, I'm not asking for canon specifics. Really I just wish there had been a show like MacGuyver with a female lead, you know? Give me a really MacGuyvery story with paperclips and ~innocent bystanders~ that help rescue themselves and bureaucrats being snotty, idk. If the genderswap thing is doing your head in... I mean, I wouldn't *mind* a regular MacGuyver story, but I can't think of another idea that's in the spirit of Yuletide because it's awesome and nobody has written it.
2. Obernewtyn. The one thing that's always bothered me about Obernewtyn is the weird lack of on-page gay characters. You'd sort of think an organisation that rescues people from domestic abuse and religious intolerance would have foiled at least one gay-bashing! I really want fic that fixes this.
I'm doing a big reread in anticipation of the upcoming new book, which is why this has been on my mind. I haven't actually read The Stone Key yet, but I might have by the time I read your fic :P so don't let that stop you. Anyway, I don't really have other ideas beyond the general er where are all the queers. You could set it during the period when they're just sort of hangin out at Obernewtyn and coordinating Misfit rescue efforts and arguing with horses, and have them actually foil a gaybashing, I suppose. That would involve OCs which I know some people don't like to put front and center, in which case try and think of some plausible stealth-gay supporting characters whose sexuality we could have just not been told about yet :P
Basically think of Obernewtyn as being like a modern social justice group. Show me the intersectionality!
3. Danger Days! The kid played by Grace Jeanette does not appear to be listed as a character, but I think she is the best kid and would like fic about her if at all possible. Backstory, forestory, whatever. My favourite would be her friendship with Show Pony. I'd also love to know more about what happened with her mother, who I assume was likewise awesome, because come on, it's Ray Toro :P
if you have zero interest in the kid, that's okay: write me Show Pony's diary, or something with Kobra Kid being :| badass.
lol basically that :P I think MCR's little LARPing in the desert escapade is wonderful and want something in the spirit that expands upon the universe. I like to imagine Show Pony's diary to be written in pink sparkly ink whenever he can get his hands on some. He's teaching the kid to rollerskate.
4. Architecture & Mortality. Something loopy in the vein of the original. Pick a legend, any legend. Communist werewolves! The Djinn mafia! 20,000 implausible feats of engineering beneath the sea (a crossover with league of extraordinary gentlemen and/or either Marvel or DC's Atlantis would be hilarious)! Zombie politicians! Tribbles! Locusts! Or whatever you think is awesome!
Because seriously, Doc 13 is my faaaavourite in the Maximum Ridiculosity charts. I will be happy with pretty much anything that brings the lulz.
