yuletide story. Now I feel a little... wooooozy. But I am told by reliable sources that it turned out well! And I uploaded it literally within seconds of the deadline! And soon I must go to the chirporactor which I am looking forward to because a) my hands are so stiff omg and b) I got a full nelson demonstrated on me in escrima yesterday and ow. I am totally ecstatic that I am back into training though! I missed a grading again, which is practically my thing now, but whatever. I don't wanna be a black belt I just like to hit things with sticks.
So now that my Yuletide story is no longer hanging over my head I have started to feel guilty that I never posted a Dear Yuletider letter, cos I was kinda flaily over not having one for my recipient (who did not even have an LJ!) and so I am going to do one now for the Treat writers and also in case I am being pinch hit.
Dear Yuletide er pinchitter and/or treat writer!
My tastes are pretty varied, in that I like comedy-of-errors stories but I also like shivery desolate stories - and then there is the porn, which I guess is its own category since it doesn't... really... fit... well, I think I would prefer comedy of errors porn to desolate porn, lol! Really though, any kind of ~sex that fits into the tone of the story is fine by me, or none!
In fact I am pretty much going to be happy with anything where the characters and the tone feel like they are true to the original (but mainly the characters!) and I rambled a bit in my actual requests so I am going to reiterate those and elaborate slightly!
1. Amanda Palmer - Who Killed Amanda Palmer (album)
Ampersand/Another Year/Astronaut
Details: Sciffy AU. Amanda is/was/will be The Astronaut. I like slightly brain-breaking Crazy SF Ideas mirrored in the story-structure, and I'm also a fan of subtle psychological horror. Or just go where your imagination takes you, I have faith in AFP fans!
Elaboration: I... don't know that I have any elaboration for that! I was serious about AFP fan faith!
2. Ray Bradbury - Something Wicked This Way Comes
Jim Nightshade/William Holloway
Details: I've always wondered what growing up was going to be like for those boys. Also I have to admit I giggled a bit when I realised his right hand was now older than the rest of him ;) Slash is preferable but it's cool if it doesn't take you that way.
Elaboration: Okay, remember that scene in the tree with the voyeurism? Basically the adult version of that dynamic between the two of them. And I kinda liked all the Temptation themes in the book.
3. Doctor 13: Architecture and Mortality
Any characters
Details: Something loopy in the vein of the original. Pick a legend, any legend. Communist werewolves! The Djinn mafia! 20,000 implausible feats of engineering beneath the sea (a crossover with league of extraordinary gentlement and/or either Marvel or DC's Atlantis would be hilarious there, but nvm I ramble)! Zombie politicians! Tribbles! Locusts! Or whatever you think is awesome!
Elaboration: I think my elaboration on this would just consist of listing more things that it would be awesome for the team to encounter :P Infectia's home planet? Edward Cullen? Death by cutlery? I wanna see Doc flailing about how there is a perfectly ordinary explanation for all this and and Traci rolling her eyes and I, Vampire being dramatic. I just really love this cracktastic canon :P
4. Lois McMaster Bujold - Vorkosigan series
Bel Thorne, Byerly Vorrutyer, Dag Benin, Miles Vorkosigan
Details: Miles tries so hard to keep all his lives separate. When a bizarre series of circumstances throws some unlikely people together, it can only spell (hilarious) disaster for him! My favourite bits of canon were the comedy of errors stories - but not overly-sweet ones like the Gratuitous Wedding Book. (I'm sort of hankering for By/Bel with a side of Not Amused Dag but of course there are chronology considerations or it may not suit you - gen is fine!)
Elaboration: I thought it was sad that the gay and genderqueer characters in canon got so little queer time - By never gets a love interest, Bel goes all manly for that gengineered lady... I'm just saying, they could have had a fling before that. You know, if they'd met. And since Miles is the kind of person that Stuff Just Happens To, this is quite plausible! Feel free to play fast and loose with canon as far as invasions and promotions and stuff go! PS I don't hate the gratuitous wedding book, it just kinda nags at me when absolutely everybody gets paired off all neat and tidy like that.
