So [livejournal.com profile] wrisomifu hasn't gone brilliantly, but this Miserable Fuck has indeed Written Something, something being two poems and a short fanfic, which is more than I've managed the last six months, so ALL IS NOT LOST. Also I'm being bombarded with DC bunnies. Two of them showed up in comic form so will take forever to implement, but expect fic relatively soon.

Speaking of DC, let's have a quick spoilerrific chat about Countdown 22, specifically the pages posted here. So, essentially, "I see what u did thar." I mean, there really aren't a lot of ways to interpret "No! Not him, not now!" Especially after "the gay jokes [inexplicably] stopped being funny."

So commendations for being willing to go there, guys, but you kind of... how shall I put it? FAILED. Seriously, the whole being stuck together, teasing, realising his feelings just in time to sacrifice himself yada yada thing could have been pretty damn awesome. So it's cliche, what isn't. Unfortunately, it really just came out awkward. Points for trying, guys. (Note that I'm not giving them money for trying.) I'm just going to pretend, in my head, that this storyline was done tastefully, respectfully and realistically, and hell while I'm at it I'll imagine the art was a bit better, too, and that Trickster doesn't friggin die. Or at the very least Gets Better. (Of course, in my head Jason goes back to Steampunk!Gotham, and lives happily ever after. *sigh*)

Ah well. We'll always have fanfic.

Concurred muchly.

Even though (as my comments there probably made plain) I'm much more a Deadshot fan than a Flash/Flash's Rogues fan, I'm not a big fan of death in lieu of storytelling, and a lot of what I've seen in the ninth art lately has been the misguided notion that death=drama, or worse, death=omgawesum! I don't see Trickster's death as being...appropriate from a narrative standpoint, I don't see it as being befitting his character (as I think these moments need to be, especially when you're a character as deep and with as much history as James Jesse), and, you know, I don't think it's well done. Sorry, Paul. You are still awesome, but what you've put on the page is warm suck.

I find the death so out of tune with what we'd expect for the Trickster (and Deadshot almost a pod person) that I'm not entirely convinced it's legit. Of course, I thought Booster Gold was dead for a few weeks, there....

I've been wracking my brains on how they might bring him back, too, but with a damn great hole in his chest and head I'm thinking nothing short of magic - and where's Piper gonna get some of that at short notice and chained to a corpse?

Neron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neron), maybe? They do go back....

Honestly, I don't know. I do know that I've seen too many characters resurrected from gunshot wounds to the brain, decapitations, disintegrations, even being at ground zero of an atomic detonation. I wouldn't be surprised. Hell, now that I think about it, I'm almost expecting it.

I guess we'll just have to see. It's not like I couldn't get behind his death if they'd done it properly. I mean, for some Piper character development and suchlike. They just kinda messed it up.
