Last night we had the requisite take-the-family-to-a-kitschy-restaurant birthday party. We went to Grotta Capris, whose gimmick was the Fairy Grotto thing. The staff were very nice, and I know you're expected to pay for the ambience in these places, but honestly I thought the stalactites were a little over the top. Also there were panels in the floor where you have to walk on flimsy-feeling plastic above what's evidently supposed to be a riverbed. I swear I flinched every single time I stepped on one.
It was a nice evening as family dinners go, although my mother, in spite of my new adult status, tried to force me to 1) wear a skirt, 2) dance and 3) take shitloads of photographs. Le sigh. Also, what is it with elderly female relatives giving me underwear? Seriously? I mean, one of them is... meshy. and. orange. And. Just. No.
On the bright side, a big damn CD full of songs from musicals. Yay!

Still, congrats, and glad it was a mostly bearable evening. And yeah, being old is all about imposing your will on those you can, and this typically only works inside your own family tree. Fret.
