Harry Potter Day!

Best. Civi Day. EVER.
My search for pink hairspray proved fruitless, so I went as Neville. This entailed a dorky shirt/vest combo, a sign on my back that says "KICK ME (by order of Salazar Slytherin)", a hair straightener and the Sword of Godric Gryffindor. That was fun to make last night - my dad found a long thin strip of plastic that was apparently left over from a poker machine sign (he works for Aristocrat. The gamblingisevil lectures abound), and I cut a point in it, wrapped it in tinfoil and made a hilt out of cardboard. It was awesome, I couldn't stop playing with it all day. Have at thee, sirrah!
In maths we formed a resistance against Ms Vis, whose Umbridge costume consisted of a weird hairclip and a lot of pink. The other highlight was the return of Nicky from Canada, bearing bizarre candy and stories, whee. Assembly was full of wonders, such as Mr Harrison being the spitting image of Lucius Malfoy onstage, a ridiculously good Hagrid outfit from a year ten, Poppy chairing the assembly as Harry Potter and house banners that happen to be the same colours as the Hogwarts houses.
Harry Potter mania was everywhere today, even in Drama where we knocked off work early to stage an impromptu quidditch match using some blocks and a random inflatable ball that Ev or someone produced from nowhere. We thus established that there is a reason I don't play sports. But I got in a rousing chorus of Weasley Is Our King for Zoe and her bright red wig.
Anyway, I came out of the day with a decent shiny sword for the next Pirates/King Arthur/DnD/Whatever themed party I go to, a photo of the Dark Lord eating toast and something called "Fruity Smarties" which claim to be SERIOUSLY mixed up. Given that they're smarties without chocolate and they have French writing and question marks all over the pack, I would have to agree.

Also, I can't imagine how you'd get real-world Quidditch to play. At least not without a few injuries.
