Jan. 7th, 2007 09:01 pmWhew, that's my shopping done for this year...
Not quite, but I think I'll keep it down until June or so. We had a Newtown spree today! My dad spent so long making breakfast that I had to rush out to catch my bus with a boiled egg in my hand. I met Mel and Yifan at Newtown Station - Diana decided not to come because the last time she went to Newtown she got mistaken for a hooker, and propositioned. We were propositioned ourselves, but only by a drunk guy leaning off his balcony. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. Mel had found a green leaflet promising a goth!cyber!punk garage sale OF DOOOOOOOOOOOM (eleven o's, count'em). However, the bright goth lads had blurred out all but three street names on the little map. So, first of all, we had to figure out how to get to Bedford St from Kings St. "Easy!" I proclaimed. "Thataway!" Once we'd walked up Kings for a bit I went "Hang on... we should have turned left by now..." and Mel and Yifan started to get worried.
But! We ended up walking through completely random streets and reaching Bedford via a huge circle. Don't ask me how, I put it down to my innate sense of direction, ahem. We then found Oxford street, also completely by accident, and got really confused until our problems were all solved by the sudden appearance of a large sign saying "Garage sale." On the way, Mel's jacket was attacked by onion rings, and we counted eight dogs for Dana to have run away from screaming if she had come with.
The garage sale wasn't actually in a garage, but rather in a teeny shop. I walked right on in and introduced myself by announcing "This map is utterly useless." Which prompted some friendly sparring with a random goth guy whom I presumed to be the genius street-name-blurrer. Mel bought ridiculously cheap shoes. I bought a skirt and a collar/tie thing which, at twenty dollars, didn't seem very cheap, until we got back to Kings St and realised that not-second-hand ones are about fifty. Which is, well, frankly bizarre, because you could MAKE YOUR OWN for less than fifty dollars. But anyway, if Sam has another Goth Extravaganza, I'm totally ready! XD it is a cool tie. It's got vinyl and netting and safety pins and everything. And the goth kids make hair!
Anyway, we then found the main shopping area again by the same process of trial and error, and looked through a bunch of op shops where I bought a significantly cheaper top and a cool hat, and also an art shop where I bought a new sketch book and Mel bought a feather. which I put behind my ear, cos... feather! By that point my feet were really aching from all the trial and error, so we sat down and had noodles. And then we went to a corset shop, where everything was ridiculously expensive and they didn't have enough tophats :( but they did have a cute blond gay guy, according to Mel - for some reason I didn't notice. Then we saw Marie Antoinette. It was not very historically accurate, but BOY, was it pretty! I loved the ditz character, she made me giggle.
Generally a fun day. And the dog total, incidentally, Diana, reached over thirty. So there XP
Also: have a look at this: Ron Mueck's sculptures are sort of creepy but oh-so-realistic.

You've changed journals, I'll add you! Hope you've been having good holidays etc!
