bliumchik: (fight the system)

As we've just gotten our reports for year 11, our teachers are getting serious about nagging us into pulling our socks up. Everyone who got under 80 for a subject has to have an Ominous Sounding InterviewTM with their teacher, and many of us have been nominated for some sort of "mentoring" program.

The recurring theme in my conversations with teacher appears to be "You're smart, but lazy. Try harder." It's not that I object to this analysis, but... what are you supposed to say when your english teacher looks at her little form and writes under "objective:" full marks? Oh. Okay then. I'll uh, try doing that, then. Was there anything else? Did you maybe want me to stop in and have a go at world peace on my way?

In other news, my four-unit concept is coming along nicely - so nicely, in fact that Ms K has given me a six-hundred-page Oxford Companion to Fairy Tales. Hardback, small font. "Take this home for a couple of nights and have a read," she says. "O RLY?" says I. Well, no, I didn't, because much as she resembles an owl I'm not sure her response would be "YA RLY" so much as *over-the-specs-stare* "...yes."

Not only that, but even if you weren't doing great already, why should you try harder? I bet no one bothered giving a reason, it was just assumed one of Those Things That Should Be Done.

Oh, no, I do need the marks for most of the uni courses I'd like. But yes, they are giving that to people who don't actually need it, too XP

Well I mean maybe that's YOUR reason, but I'm saying, teachers, they all just assume. Why should you try hard at school if you're satisfied? I always got the "youre lazy" speech, but my grades were perfectly reasonable and I did not care that they weren't all perfect and thus I was like, "Uh, why should I?"

Myes, well. I guess it's their responsibility to check.
