Help! Can anyone think of a good topic for my Modern History essay? The Irish Potato Famine is sounding boring, the Khrushchev Thaw doesn't have sufficient room for analysis unless I concentrate on something small which means there isn't enough info, and all my other suggestions got the veto from Ms McKay.

Yes, I made a floating "Hi" post. It will have more in it than a cryptic welcome mat at some point in time, but I just made it to put my counter on.

Now, this counter is a bit of a mystery. You get to my stats by clicking the little box with a graph in it. It's only showing numbers for today because it turns out you have to have it on the page, silly me. Still, the results baffle me somewhat. The hell I had fifty pageviews in the past half hour! As the californian animators imitating Canadians would say, "What's going on, eh?"

So, uh... if anyone from Thailand, Norway or the Netherlands is dropping by, feel free to, yaknow, leave a comment or something. Because I'm a mite confused.

As long as we're pimping, sign-ups for [livejournal.com profile] firefly_lims are on. Last time I was eliminated in the second round (for a truly bad icon, which just goes to show I need to sit on things before submitting them) but they ended up with some pretty damn good ones.

Modern History? Is that world history, or...?

World history, yup. Pretty much anything between Shakespeare and Perestroika.

Hm.

I'd say write about the Soviet Union, but I tell everyone to write about the Soviet Union simply because in the States we like to pretend it never happened, which is abhorrent.

Yes, but my parents were FROM the soviet union, and their only helpful suggestion was the Khrushchev thaw, and there's nothing to ANALYZE in it.

Ew.

Hmm.

Well, you could analyze the development of our modern conception of genocide--Rwanda, Croatia, etc. It's a pretty interesting topic, and there's plenty to write about.

That might just be TOO MUCH to write about. The essay's not all that long. See comment below about anarchists.

Hrmm... how about something from the Age of Sail? Capitalize on PotC mania!

Now I'm thinking of something with anarchists in. Maybe the fall of Mussolini's Italy. It did fall, right? It occurs to me I know nothing about it except that there were fascists involved and they didn't like anarchists. So that would probably be a good topic to study.
