We're doing Othello in English. And half the class was away today, so we had to watch the movie instead of reading the book. (Do not question the Logic of the English Teacher). This is verbatim from an IM conversation with Stan, because I think I got the right wording there, and.

It sucked. So very much suckage. Ow.

Two-by-four acting.
Terrible lighting.
Everyone was middleaged except for the greybeards.
Iago was this short Yiddish merchant banker.
The costumes were ridiculous.
And worst of all.
The biggest damn problem with this movie:

OTHELLO WAS WHITE
HE WAS WHITE AS FUCKING SNOW
HE WAS A DISTINCTLY NOTBLACK MUTHAFUCKA!

Some people have argued that actually Othello, as a Moor, would have been more Arabic in appearance than really Negro, so if he was sorta Arabic-white that might have been what they were doing...but all the black references would still be a bit wrong. 'Thick-lips' etc.
