I Need a Hair Straightener.

bliumchikWhoah, Neil Gaiman's at Sydney Writer's Festival! And conveniently on Tuesday after my exams are over! But unfortunately at Woop Woop Macquarie University. Still, it's at seven pm, so I should have time to get there, even factoring in the WherethefuckamI half hour.
In other news, I have a new haircut.
Jana has been our family hairdresser for a very, very long time - I remember being ten and getting annoyed because she cut my hair too short. I never figured out if it was because I said collar length and I had a high collar at the time, or because she forgot that curly hair is longer when wet, or because she kept making it uneven and having to fix it by shortening the other side.
Then for my batmitzvah my mother convinced me to let her mess about with hair spray - I ended up with this huge lumpy sort of mass on top of my head, and some stiff cardboardy curls hanging down at the back. And last year, when I had headlice, she came and cut my hair short - somewhat shorter than I expected, actually.
See, the thing with Jana is, it always looks fine when she does it. When my hair is damp and she's combed it it looks like it's going to be pretty damn awesome. And then I get home and it dries and I look in the mirror and say WTF. NEVER AGAIN.
And my mum always drags me back because it's cheap.
So I wanted to look like Melaka Fray but I knew that wasn't going to happen. My hair wasn't long enough anyway. Still, I asked for a concave sort of thing, short at the back and long in the front, and when she was done it looked sort of cool.
Right now I think I belong in the 1920s.
But we'll see what kind of hair I wake up with in the morning.
