Hey, my modern history class! The term "the 10th of August" is widely used by historians as a shorthand for the Storming of the Tuileries Palace on 1792-08-10, the effective end of the French monarchy until it was restored in 1814. How cool is that? No when someone asks me when my birthday is, I can say "The storming of the Tuileries"!
Anyway.
Events:
1. 612 BC - Killing of Sinsharishkun, King of Assyrian Empire. Destruction of Nineveh.
2. 1893 - At Augsburg, Rudolf Diesel's prime model runs on its own power for the first time. Because of this, August 10 is the International Biodiesel Day.
3. 1519 - Ferdinand Magellan's five ships set sail from Seville to circumnavigate the globe. Interestingly enough, it's also the date when a space probe named Magellan reached Venus in 1990!
4. 2005 - Lee Seung Seop dies from exhaustion in South Korea after playing 49 straight hours of Starcraft. What a way to go, eh?
