School tidbits
Feb. 10th, 2006 09:32 pmI've grown to like Miss Vis, for all that I thought her boring when, in our first maths lesson, she spent five minutes explaining the function of the memory button to me when all I wanted to know was its position on the new calculator. She does insult your intelligence a little (and she knows it - she's all "patience grasshopper"), but other than that she's a very good teacher, there's no possibility of missing something, her techniques are good (a little slow, but not so slow that I finish all the examples more than about three minutes before she's done talking, so I don't generally get bored) and she's nice. So all in all, considering we could've been saddled with Ms Bray of the infamous Duster Incident and the bagpipe voice, I think I've come out well enough.
I've obtained the Hornblower DVDs from the Bowen library (the first two - I couldn't work out what order the others were in) and I can't help but wish to see Mr Harrison of the Science Faculty in one of those Commodore outfits. He just suits the period so perfectly. He has long white hair pulled back in that exact style, and his bearing, pace and voice would all be perfectly at home on the HMS Indefatigable 200 years ago. His face can only be described as "chiselled", so that is how I shall describe it. Thankfully he doesn't teach me, or I'd be quite unable to master the urge to reply "Aye Aye" to every request.
