Today at work I was savaged by a vampire. Now, most people, upon hearing that, say things like "Funny place to find a vampire, is a bakery" - and those people are wrong. You see, vampires commonly pose as harmless inanimate objects like cleavers and watermelons in order to lull their victims into a false sense of security. And a bakery, besides posessing all manner of regular knives and things, usually has a bread slicer on the premises. Nine times out of ten, the thing placidly slices your bread, feeding on crumbs and crusts. But sometimes they get a craving for BLUUURD and claim a finger. Like so, today. wo cuts, one less fingernail. We live in constant fear that these tiny sips will prove insufficient, and it will become impatient enough to snag a piece of clothing or an apron string and drag one of us, screaming, into the slicing, gnashing blades. But being able to slice bread evenly and quickly is ever so convenient...

Actually there's a delightful novel called Sunshine by Robin McKinley which has lots and lots of vampires and blood, and the main character's entire life (before, y'know, the vampires) revolves around her job baking cinnamon rolls and pasteries and whatnot in a bakery.

And OH MY GOD you lost a fingernail? D:

NO WAIT! They DO! ...well they have some. On the duo language page link. A bunch of them are just question marks, but they've got some of the Japanese names and stuff.

...and I def. don't know enough Japanese to volunteer for something like that. o_o
