Elza's Ocean
Jun. 9th, 2008 06:21 pmMy dad made a random find of a band called Океан Ельзи - it's Ukrainian Pop-Rock and it totally has a last.fm page, as I discovered when I finally renamed all the tracks from Áóäèíîê ç³ ñêëà, Ñóïåðñèìåòðiÿ and Ìîäåëü to the Cyrillic in their filenames. I like umlauts, but only as a friend.
Anyway, according to last.fm, Океан Ельзи is "one of the most successful and popular Ukrainian pop-rock bands, formed in 1994 in Lviv, Ukraine. The band’s vocalist and most recognizable member is Svyatoslav Vakarchuk."
It also contains two dudes named Dennis. Just because I'm always amused by bandmembers who share first names.
I'm also immensely amused by the fact that Ukrainian last.fm pages are not immune to comment wank. Seriously, I don't know if I've complained about last.fm here before? Its comments are basically like those of music videos on youtube and of course myspace in that there's a bunch of earnest and badly spelled fansquee interspersed with random assholes calling all the other commenters emo fags, followed by either a) "we/they aren't emo!!" b) "I don't usually like emo but these guys are/this one song is good!!" or c) "stfu emo is awesome!!" followed by miscellaneous abuse.
The Ukrainian equivalent is apparently Russian vs. Ukrainian bitching, and a lot more low-key and correctly spelled. Nevertheless, it's funny how some things are universal.
Now I just want to know why the hell the page is tagged "britpop"...
