As far as I can ascertain, the lilypad is either borne of profound inebriation or catastrophic fatigue, perhaps both: mutual physical gratification on a mostly horizontal plane. It may be more accidental than deliberate, like Denny's: you don't go to Denny's, you end up at Denny's.
