Jun. 12th, 2007 09:53 pmI just finished reading Transmetropolitan. Terrible eyestrain, but I simply could not go to school tomorrow and focus on anything without knowing ho it ended. I really loved it. In fact I liked it so much that if, at some point in the hopefully-not-too-distant future, I am in fact anything other than flat out broke, I fully intend to give them money. Perhaps I shall buy a T shirt or something, since five years worth of comics is just impractical to own in anything other than digital form. I'm telling you, Yi Fan, you have to open a chain of comic book libraries when you grow up. It's awesome on a stick waiting to happen!
O HAY, Post Modern students, take a gander!
There's a lot of things I hate about winter. Okay, if you eliminate low temperature and sundry low-temperature-related irritants there aren't that many, but the cold is a bitch. One thing I hate about winters down here is that it doesn't snow. Winter is cold everywhere, but at least the northern hemisphere and Folk Outta The Mountains get something pretty in exchange.
Anyway, there are some things I like about winter. Well, a couple. One is the clothes. Quite apart from my natural disinclination for Showing Leg, my very favourite items of apparel are hats, gloves, boots and scarves, and all of them are best served as winter items. Summer hats are kind of lame, and you can't really wear gloves in summer unless you have a nice non-woolly pair which is so very, very rare. The scenery improves somewhat, too. Summer fashion always borders on the skanky, winter imposes a layer of elegance on the street life.
The other thing I like about winter i the torrential rain we get. Sure, I'll bitch and moan about it, but that's mostly because it's cold. I could watch it for days on end. Did, for most of the weekend. It rained to quench the flames of hell Wednesday to Sunday, more or less. On Thursday after English we all wanted to go to Fox Studios or somewhere fun, but one glance outside the window and it was all "Maybe we should wait half an hour till it lets up... okay, another half hour... alright one more... ...kay, wanna play Pocket Tanks?" And on Friday I hung around in the common room after the Drama written exam, because there was no point waiting at a bus stop in the rain when I knew the school bus was due in half an hour or so. When I finally went to shiver at the bus shelter I was somewhat cheered up by the thought of poor Evelyn, who had a momentary brain lapse that morning and decided to ride her bike to school, so now had to ride it home again. Anyway, my point is - rain is beautiful when you can look at it out of a window. And sort of funny when it's not you that's getting soaked. But I really do need a new umbrella.
