This is so fucking weird, guys, I'm on Youtube listening to an Estonian glam punk band cover a song from one of the most famous Russian cartoons ever, which is the only thing I still remember how to play on the piano. It's a national icon instantly recognisable to anyone of Slavic-related cultural background, so it's not actually SURPRISING, although I guess Western music is somewhat less influenced by the respective children's cartoon music... well, I can also play the Rugrats theme, now that I think about it, but I've never seen a rock band play it!
Um which is to say long time no proper update! This week my scheduling conflict demon was out in full force. Today I dashed from my Short Fiction class to a seminar on alternative comics via a brief stop at the Queer Space to meet the Student Association's new Queer Officer - apparently there was a working bee or something to clear up the room since it's in a poor state after years of neglect. But I could not stay because comics! The panel was good fun, one of the guys showed that Watchmen/Downfall video that's doing the rounds on youtube. His topic was idk, something about the physicality of comics and something about comics collectors, he was kind of random. There was also a lady from the publishing industry, a French literary scholar type person, and a guy who has actually been making alternative comics in sydney for years (I am not sure how many years, he had one of those faces where he could be 18 or he could be 28) and was awesome. He passed around some of his stuff and while it's not anything I'd ever WRITE it was all really well done and interesting. I went up to him afterwards and asked about the Sydney comics creator community in general, and he mentioned something called Pulp Faction which I am presently googling.
Then I dashed home for work, which I was late for. Speaking of work, I have an interview for a marketing internship! On Tuesday! *flaps about* I don't know what to do! I have never done an interview before! ...and now I must go to sleep because I have a TROUTS meeting tomorrow about the short play night. WHY SO BUSY.
(The band is Vennaskond, incidentally, and their violinist is smokin' hot. Lead singer has nice pants but creepy eyes. Good music, nothing special but I'd go to their shows. Uh, you know, if I... lived in Estonia.)
