Oct. 12th, 2008 02:45 pmOkay, so here's the sober update :P
This has been a pretty interesting week. On Wednesday I checked out those escrima classes at ITC after uni. It was totally awesome and I think I'll start going weekly, but considering you spend an hour and a half on your feet it was certainly a bad idea to walk there from uni. While carrying a heavy laptop. I was feeling pretty dead afterwards. The reason I was carrying a laptop is I had a presentation to do for my class that day. Unfortunately I was late to class because of FINISHING that presentation, and the guy before me went on for way too long about his topic, so by the time we were trying to figure out how to make the projector work with my Ubuntu (or rather how to make Ubuntu recognise the projector's existence) there were ten minutes left of class. So after all that I'm doing it next week.
Then on Thursday I went along to USYD's Science Revue: Indiana Jones and the Radius of the Lost Arc. It was pretty hilarious, but I can't believe they missed the most obvious joke - when the radio announcer said "and in breaking news today, somewhere in Australia - a Sydney Uni Arts graduate has been EMPLOYED." I was totally waiting for an "Oh, the humanities!"
I sort of forgot to get food beforehand and ended up buying a terrible, terrible sandwich from the bar at the Seymour theatre. I literally could not finish it and neither could my parents when I brought it home out of curiosity and an ingrained instinct not to waste things. Such a waste of money, honestly. I also ate some icing sugar from the sherbet stall by the door, which seemed to perplex the guy running it.
Then on Friday I planned to record my League of Evil application with Stan and Liza. It was Friday because Stan had much uni work due Thursday. Unfortunately he basically handed it in and then collapsed from stress and his ~mysterious illness, and Liza got glandular fever. so I had to rustle up a henchman and a damsel in distress in a hurry, which is why I ended up filming it on Saturday afternoon with Avi and Cassie, and then editing it at Avi's house before and running into the party, because my ubuntu ALSO wouldn't recognise the camera and the windows computer was in use by my mum, who was urgently writing a resume and is terrified of linux.
I finally finished up and joined the crowd outside, pouring myself a liberally vodka-heavy screwdriver and some felafel. THEN I remembered about the time limit and had to go edit it AGAIN. Then I came back out and realised that the prodigal Mick had been there for a while. I had not recognised him as his back was to me and he's grown a ponytail in the years since I saw him last. He's also recovered from dropping out of genetics and is now starting physio and yoga, which is a bit of a swing.
Incidentally the short version is now up, and I've got all the footage on CD so hopefully there will soon be a blooper reel. I totally made the sockpuppets myself, by the way. My dad taught me how to sew back when we actually darned socks instead of just buying new ones, so I finally sorted out my sock drawer and then sewed buttons onto all the odd ones. I am inordinately proud of my sockpuppets. I think I left a couple at Avi's house though. Towards the evening there were five of us left, playing wii tenniis and completely failing to finish all the felafel and chips, and I had put away my long stripy socks when I changed from my skirt into trackies, so I wore some sockpuppets on my feet for a while. Carl passed out for a bit thanks to his improvised "little bit of everything" cocktail and me and Stan wrote on his face in marker. I voted for "pastede on yey" but Stan insisted that he could fit "there's a party in my pants, where's your invitation?" and he just managed it.
Most of us crashed on Avi's futon and camp bed, and my knees were bitterly complaining about it in the morning. Me and Stan stayed up a bit later messing around on youtube before he caught a cab home at 5 am and I finally went to sleep. I dreamed that I went along to the monday escrima class and that one actually had lots of girls in it, unlike the wednesday one. *shrug* Then my phone alarm went off at nine thirty and woke everyone up, although Cassie and Carl claimed to have been awake already. Then I went back to sleep and woke up at a more normal hour of eleven.
Now I'm home and catching up on my flist, then I've got to write something for my class tomorrow (I think?) and then I'll hopefully get the blooper reel done. Whee.
