Medals and Memes
Nov. 8th, 2005 07:10 pmMy grandparents are straight out of a comedy flick. From what I can work out, they got a call last night asking about a community service thing. My grandma said "we don't speak good english, please talk slower?" and they were all "okay, some other time then". My grandad somehow got it into his head that it was the police and they wanted him to be a witness (or... something) while they were signing the arrest warrants on those terrorists they arrested just recently (...or whatever). And all day he's been going on about how if my grandma hadn't spoken up he'd have gotten to go with the police, and he'd be famous now and have medals.
It's just really funny when it comes up at random intervals. we're just talking about strawberries and he chimes in with "Eсли твоя бабка не открила рот, у меня била б ордин!" Several times in an hour. Ah, old age.
IT'S THE MOST EXPENSIVE MEME IN THE HISTORY OF LIVEJOURNAL
Step One: Make a post (Public, Friendslocked, Filtered... Whatever you're comfortable with!) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes; the wishes can be anything at all, from simple & fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me",) to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD"), to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV."). The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want. If you wish for real life things (Not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (Or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (It'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two: Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part: If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free, do it...
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not; it's your call! There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just... Wish & it might come true. Give & you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special...

liishi. Who is totally getting fanfiction once Nano spits me out.
Hokay, so...
1. DVD set of Firefly (yes, I know it's on my computer. The quality sucks like a Jurassic swamp full ofalligators dinosaurs vaccuum cleaners. WITH QUICKSAND IN IT.)
2. Set (DVD or otherwise) of Monty Python or Daria.
3. Rock song reccommendations. PRETTY ones, dammit.
4. A whip (don't ask actually do ask, because otherwise you'll think bad things. One word - CHRISMOWEEN.)
5. Funky headgear (in honour of my journal, and because I like hats. Scarves will do.)
6. I notice a lot of people are asking for fanfiction, but I can always check out
lower_tadfield if I'm in the mood for slash, so I won't. However, if anyone sees anything EXCEPTIONALLY pretty... yes. I want my pretty.
7. A timeturner (or an anti-lazy pill)
8. If you wait till after November's done, a cool game would be nice. Just internet stuff, or whatever. But it has to be either pretty, or shiny, or hypnotic, or hilarious.
9. Um. Fuzzy things?
10. We-ell, number two was technically two things. And I... can't think of anything else. But I'll add it if I do!
And all you people do this thing too, cos you never know.
