General anaesthetic makes you go XP
Mar. 4th, 2005 03:47 pmSo I arrived at the hospital in normal condition, arguing with my mum, got required to put on one of those backless surgical gowns, and then waited around for like a few hours till the surgeon was done with some other people. My bed got raised up really high (which was a really cool experience in the lift) and i was wheeled into the anaesthetics bay, where the nurse missed my vein quite painfully. However, she got it right the second time, took my remarks that blood is pretty in her stride, and then left the tube in my arm while she went to check on the situation.
I lay there for about fifteen minutes while they got the place ready, and then some more anaesthetists turned up and gave me some happy juice which made the room jiggle and me laugh. I don't remember anything after that until I got wheeled back into my room, where Avi and Stan were blurry with my family - some ice, a kevorkian scarf, and sleeep.
When I was next awake around midnight I got given panadol and had more tests done - this established a pattern for the whole stay. I gradually got used to food n stuff again, and Stan and Avi came back when I was mildly coherent and entertained me for FOUR HOURS O_O which I was extremely grateful for.
I only brought three books, even counting A Brief History of Time, so by this morning I was reduced to reading womens weekly or something. I now know entirely too much about Anna Nicole Smith's "antics" and what celebrities were dating as of three and a half weeks ago. Ugh.
Basically the only post-op side effects were a bit of nausea and some soreness from the carbon dioxide gas bubbles that are still in my body. And that's NOT FUNNY.
It felt like a stitch and carsickness at the same time, only it WOULDNT GO AWAY and I was so hungry but I couldn't bring myself to eat, and I promise I'll never ever make fun of people with eating disorders ever again.
Theres still a bit of turbulence, but spaghetti and cheeeeese did wonders - I think I'm Not Hungry for the first time since Monday morning.
